UPDATED AS OF 9/15/2025

Hi all!

I’m aware of an issue where Novetus crashes with a “The operation was canceled by the user” error on startup for some users. After some investigation, it is found that this issue effects Windows 11 users using the default zip extractor. It has been found that for whatever reason, the extractor will somehow corrupt files upon extracting. This is a problem that can’t be fixed by myself, as it’s a problem with Windows itself and not a Novetus issue.

There are currently two workarounds for this:

1. Extract Novetus with 7-Zip or WinRAR. Using a different extraction program seems to fix the problem for some users. Make sure to fully extract the Novetus .zip file.

2. Use the itch.io app. The itch.io app is probably the most consistent way to fix this issue, and will provide you with automatic updates whenever a new Novetus release comes out (which will indeed happen at some point).

3. Add your Novetus directory to Windows Defender’s exceptions. If you have an anti-virus, add it to your anti-virus’ exception list as well.
